his is the latest piece of tech loveliness by the iDevices team, and while it has been on sale for over a month now, it has only been available to US & Canadian customers – either via the iDevices website or Amazon. However, Amazon has now started directly selling it themselves, which means international shipping for people like me, who live on the other side of the world (Taiwan, since you’re asking). This is the reason for my late entry into reviewing this particular item.Ok, so with that out of the way, the other important thing to take on is that technically speaking, this isn’t an actual HomeKit device, so should it be here on this site? Well yes, as most of the iDevices range IS HomeKit compatible, and this is able to directly control these devices in a very simple and efficient way. So, my logic is that if it can control at least one HomeKit device, then in theory you could create an automation that allows this switch to control other devices via the original iDevice it controls. That’s the logic, and I’m sticking to it!The switch arrived in a nicely discreet, brand-conscious box, with iDevices’ now recognisable purple & black colour scheme. As soon as I took it out of the parcel it arrived in I could tell it was well packaged. inside the box you initially just see the switch itself, covered by a protective clear plastic tray, but within the back part of the packaging you will find a rather comprehensive installation and setup guide, a pvc bag containing two sets of screws, an earthing wire (more on that later) and two adhesive 3M Commandstrips.Once you start to take apart the device for battery replacement and perhaps removing the switch and relocating it to another location, you become aware of the intricate details that have been put into the switch. There’s a rather small but useful spirit level on the top of the inner plate to aid you in placing the switch on the wall straight. If you need to move the device, there a small removable tab at the bottom of the inner plate that gives you access to the non-sticky part of the 3M command strip that allows you to easily remove it from the wall, so there’s no need to try prizing it from the side of the switch with a kitchen knife like you would the Philips Hue Dimmer Switch, for example. The battery compartment is also accessible quite easily with two tabs that you press in from the sides.iDevices have made it so that you can have this stuck directly to a wall with the provided faceplate, or amongst other switches with a 2 or 3 slot faceplate. They’ve thoughtfully provided an earth wire in the event that if you place it with other switches that are directly wired, there’s no chance of an issue with electrical problems or accidents. If you’re sticking this directly to a blank wall like myself then the wire isn’t needed, but its a thoughtful little touch.Setting up the switch in the app is very straightforward, using a Bluetooth connection, but you’re advised to make sure the firmware on the device you’re going to pair the switch with is up to date. I plan to pair the switch with my iDevices Smart Socket, which to me is the most obvious and useful reason for having this switch; I have the Smart Socket in a ceiling lamp in the entrance to the main bedroom and it’s far too high up for me to reach the switch that is placed on the body of the socket itself, and whilst I can control the Smart Socket with my iPhone, I don’t want to have to pull out my phone every time just to turn this particular socket on or off when I walk into the room, and if guests use the apartment, chances are they’ll not have an iPhone and will tend to use the standard wired light switch, which will disconnect the Smart Socket from HomeKit anyway. One could argue that it would be better to have a HomeKit compatible switch that could work with other devices and not just it’s own brand, but actually when you look at the market now, the only non-hardwired switch that is also designed for wall mounting is the Hue Dimmer, and that requires the Hue Bridge, and it has dimming capabilities like the Hue too, so this is the best and cheapest alternative, at least for me and my needs right now. iDevices have their reasons for not making this HomeKit compatible, and I’m sure it has been looked at but as it stands, it’s not.Besides my use case, it’s quite handy for iDevices lights or switches that themselves might be hard to reach, or you could simply use it as an additional wall switch to go with one of your hardwired iDevices switches without having to do lots of wiring should you not already have a switch in place.I’ll admit that when it first came out I was a bit skeptical and wasn’t really sure what it would be able to do for me, but as it happens I’ve come around to the idea, and as I’m a fan of the iDevices range in general, it was an easy purchase once I’d realised its potential.

Hi, I’d like to share my review of the iDevice Wifi Smart Dimmer Switches (IDEV0009)

Pro’s -
Compatible with Apple Homekit, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT
Fairly Easy Installlation - Great Instructions on iDevice Website including videos for installation.
Reliable after power outage or loss of wifi
iDevice App does not specifically require HomeHub.

Con’s -
Price
Size - Switch is rather deep so sometimes getting it into wall boxes might be a problem if there are a lot of wires.
Feel - Rocker switch feels slightly soft and “plastic” when depressing and doesn’t give a solid feeling when depressing compared to traditional rocker switch

Hi - I currently own 5 of the iDevice Wifi Smart Dimmer Switches and Have Been Using them for over 2 months. I have 2 pair of 3-way installations, and a single pole setup. I’ve bought these switches through a couple of different vendors depending on which site would give best deal at the time of purchase.

Setup - I installed all switches myself. You must have a neutral wire contained within your wall box — many older houses do not have a neutral wire so I would check your box prior to purchasing this switch (or any smart switch since they all seem to need this requirement). I would also watch a few videos of the installation found on the iDevice Website or through an internet search since installing the three way switches can be a little bit tricky. My wires unfortunately were not the traditional white, black, green, red color — so you might have to spend some time looking at your current setup to determine the line (typically black) and load (typically red) lines. Unlike most of the other 3 way switches I’ve installed, purchasing two of these switches for a 3-way setup does not require a traveler wire. The two switches communicate to each other through bluetooth. My switches are located fairly close to one another so I haven’t had any problem with the range of the bluetooth connection or interference from other devices. I’ve lost power to the house and router several times and they all seem to come up and recognized by the control software after a few minutes after a power or wifi signal loss. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with their reliability from recovering from a power loss. Once switches are installed the addition to homekit was very easy and it was very easy initially to control these switches through the iDevice mobile app. The firmware to the lights is able to be downloaded and installed through the app and this process was very fairly easy. I would be hesitant to use these switches for remote control if the wifi signal is shoddy, or the switches were located far away from the wireless router/access point since communication between the switches and mobile apps may not be reliable.

Build and Quality - There is an LED contained in the center of the rocker switch. The color can be customized and it could also be turned off completely if not wanted. The rocker portion of the switch works like a traditional rocker, however the sensation when pressing the rocker is soft and kind of “plastic-like” unlike the firm feel of a traditional switch. I could imagine this being a problem if the physical switch is used commonly. There is also a small delay after hitting the rocker and the light turning on/off . It doesn’t seem to be as quick as with a traditional switch.

Concerns - When researching various smart switches on the market, I wanted a switch that would be compatible with the 3 major vendors currently in the home automation market (Apple Homekit, Amazon Alexa and Google Home). Most of the other smart switches I found were compatible with one or two of these vendors but not all three. I still have some concern about the future not knowing if any or all of these vendors will completely drop out of the home automation market in the future. I suppose this concern is relevant to all “smart switch” setups. I wanted switches to have as broad of support as possible to try to “future-proof” the switches. The switches can also be controlled through the iDevice mobile app, however grouping of lights and scenes are not as easy as when combined with a complete automation program.

Home Automation integration - I personally elected to set these switches up with the Apple Homekit program. I do have some privacy concerns with all the home automation companies, but given the available information, I felt Apple’s was the least intrusive. If integrating with Apple’s Homekit, a home hub device is required. Choices for a home hub include an iPad, Apple TV or HomePod. I want to stress a home hub is not required to run these devices at all if not integrating with Apple HomeKit (iDevice infact makes a point of this since you can monitor the status of the switches remotely from any location using iDevice mobile app).

Additional thoughts on Automating these switches - Prior to setting up the switches with HomeKit, I used the scheduling app contained within the iDevice mobile app. I wanted my exterior lights to be turned on at sunset and turned off at sunrise. Unfortunately the iDevice scheduling app could only turn the lights on/off at a specific time and not at sunrise/sunset. IFTTT (If This Then That) is another option I tried. I was able to find sunrise/sunset IFTTT routines which were already written so setting up IFTTT really required me only to download the app on my mobile device, add my switches, download the sunrise and sunset routines and then activate the routines. Unfortunately I didn’t have the best of luck with IFTTT. I’d estimate 60% of the time everything worked as planned, but the other 40% I would get errors such as device is unreachable, or unknown error. Despite trying to research and debug these errors, I never really found a solution. After IFTTT, I moved on to Apple Homekit. Setup was slightly easier than IFTTT (particularly if you own an iPhone), but Apple requires a homehub. I’m currently using an old iPad as the home hub. This is mostly reliable if you keep the iPad constantly plugged in so it doesn’t lose power. The only other major glitch I’ve found is if there is a power outage that occurs prior to the the “sunset” period, the sunset routine will not be run after power is restored in the event of a power loss.

Networking Considerations - I haven’t tested the bandwidth consumed by the switches although I’ve considered placing the switches on their own separate VLAN. If you had a setup with a lot of iDevice switches, available IP addresses may become a concern unless the pool of available IP addresses is increased at the router level or the switches are moved to their own separate VLAN. Manual assignment of switch IP address is not possible within the iDevice software. If you desire a fixed IP address for each switch, this can only be done through the router software where a static IP address is given based on MAC address. If running a very restrictive firewall on your router, you may need to check what ports need to be opened. I’m running pfSense as my router software and I didn’t actually need to open any ports or modify the firewall in anyway for the iDevice software to work.

General Impression - Overall very pleased with the performance and operation of the switches however still concerned about the changes that could occur in the future with the home automation field. Given the higher price of these switches, it would be very costly to replace all the switches for the next “better and greater” home automation switch.

Style: Wall OutletVerified Purchase
I want to say this item is perfect for my needs. This item turns on my coffee bar in the am so it will get my espresso machine nice and hot by the time I'm ready. It takes about 20-30 minutes to get up to temp. I have an iPhone. I do not have Apple TV so if using Siri/HomeKit it will not work away from home. You CAN control this device away from home using iDevices App and then control the devices in the app when your away from home. So I tried to do away from home and my idevices works beautifully. So no you do not need an Apple TV or iPad to make this work away from home. You can also make schedules to turn either or both outlets on or off using the schedules. A handy thing to have if going away on vacation and to just plug a light into the outlets to make it appear someone is home. Also since I have Siri I can tell her to turn my coffee bar on or off without even hitting a button at all. There are two little buttons on the wall switch to manually turn either of the outlets on or off as well. I did say this was pricey but you get two independent switches where other devices are selling for almost the same price and you can only control a single device or outlet with other brands.
This device tells you the wattage consumption with daily weekly and yearly estimates per outlet. It combines nicely with HomeKit. Also with iPhone you can control the night light. The night light has a few color options ranging from yellow to blues to white which can also be dimmed to your liking. So far I like this device but I only had it for two days. I will update this review for longevity of the device and the reliability as well.
Installing this into a wall outlet that is in series with other switches you will need to wire nut all 3 white neutrals together and the 3 black hot wires together. If you need help hire an electrician if not handy. I installed into an old metal housing and I have perfect signal but I do have a powerful router though.
I put up some photos so you can see the interface of the app
UPDATE 3/30/2019:
The customer service I received from Jeff was astounding.
Twice!
Once the push button broke while my wife turned it on within warranty. No questions. They sent me the new one no problem. Shipped out defective one in same box AOK!
Second return was a WiFi module stopped working I could not initiate a pairing to my phone. Upon doing this I reinstalled latest firmware to my router. It was same one but reflashed it to what I thought was the newest but wasn’t. So when they replaced it for second time my routers firmware had a bad reflash. So Jeff stuck with me over the phone and emails back and forth. Troubleshooting. I didn’t want to buy a router because the first unit I had worked perfect with my current router. A few weeks later of this third unit not working correctly I realized my router home page was missing icons. I flashe again with the latest firmware. Now all is good Siri turns my espresso machine on when I tell her to. Now I set schedules up so I don’t even have to use Siri.
So I am up and running perfectly!
Thank you Jeff!
This is a top notch company that stands behind its product!
Price has came down. Definitely worth it. Just buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A little more pricey than other switches but rock solid performance !!!

Product was easy to install and worked like a charm. I’m using it with Apple HomeKit and it works seamless. It was for my outside side light and set it up on an automation that turns it on when the sun sets and turns it off when the sun rises. Works great! It is a more expensive unit than others but it’s rock solid and I don’t need any issues installing and reinstalling since I have to turn off the power to play around with it. Install and setup smooth as silk.

The item itself does not respond to commands except for opening and closing the lights, lags when playing music or stops half way after reporting the weather. Definitely not worth the price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Buen producto, pero su instalación implica algunos retos
